Last week my neighbour mowed down beautiful pale purple iris plants that had buds on them. I “rescued” the plants when no one was home and they are flourishing in pots on my back deck. Crime pays!
The ones who've followed me around the country since 1973 - barking dogs, threatened by gun, more barking dogs, cutting down trees (in a neighborhood named Tarpon WOODS), leaf blowers, barking dogs (and I've had eight+ dogs at one time - one bark, and inside they come), screaming kids, mufflerless cars (in a neighborhood where the houses go for $500,000 and up, but they can't afford a muffler???). On and on and on . . . sorry, you got me started and it's hard to stop. OTOH, I'm 76 and still see the grass from above, so I try to stop complaining (obviously, 'try' is the important word in that sentence).
Down here in FL, wild ferns are abundant; I have a forest of them growing in our pool's french drain and I won't let hubby cut them down. They are gorgeous, and prolific among the bushes along the fence, too. Better than bare ground, I feel.

Yep, I see people just clear trees and beautiful stuff all the time. I think, as my newsletter often points out, people are really stupid.
Is that ?
A Fern grows in Brooklyn?
Or Manhattan?
Manhattan, Barb.
Perhaps your anxiety level is raised by your neighbors . . . mine was, just reading about them. I. LOATHE. NEIGHBORS.
What percent of neighbors ENJOY being annoying?

My neighbors in the city are beautiful and are like minded. I find those with beauty around them in the country often take it for granted.
Hope you were able to get a used crosstrek at least! : 0 )
Ha, ha, Carol! We actually found ourselves with a car, unexpectedly, through an inheritance. Not our first choice, maybe our last choice, but free.
My husband once “trimmed” a bonsai and whittled it down to just the trunk. Every time he grabs the trimmers now I remind him to not “bonsai” it.
Janice, some bonsai instructors are pretty aggressive with pruning and others preach patience.
Been to Brimfield a few times, need to go again.
Some feel it’s changed for the worse. Or is that the country they are referring to?
Could be either. I'll withhold judgement on the fair until I've seen it again. It's only about a 90 minute drive for me.
Bonsai trees. Thank God KARATE KID III is on Tubi.
Thanks for all of the chuckles! Love the flea market finds and the good memories they trigger! Much better than my "present" memories unfortunately.
Wel, yeah, we are in the middle of history. Will people in the future even read history?
Don’t give up on the bonsai garden. Ferns are just horizontal trees - free spirits, non-conformists, ‘shroom trees…

Yes, better to have any ground cover than cement. I love moss over other ground cover.
Oh, yeah I agree, Joanna. But having grown lots of ferns, I’m still not the biggest fans of them compared to other plants—not challenging enough!
